She holds a second masters degree in working with learning disabled children from Bank Street College of Education.

Ms. Ciporen counsels families coping with chronic illness, including Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes, at the Mount Sinai Hospital, Hall Family Center for Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes and the Pediatric Pulmonary Center. In this capacity, she conducts parent groups and popular outreach educational events, reaching thousands of participants, in her efforts to reverse the Type 2 Diabetes epidemic in children. She is co-investigator in the ROAD study, a multi-hospital research project, studying means of combating obesity in children within the school setting, and is a clinical instructor at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine.

Ms. Ciporen's chapter, "Fighting the New Epidemic of Type 2 Diabetes in Children" appears in the 4th edition of Social Work in Health Settings: Practice in Context, published by Routledge Press, 2010.

Ms. Ciporen’s protocol is currently utilized by Columbia University in their interactive web tool, DIABEATERS, to train health care professionals who work with families affected by Type 2 Diabetes. She is also a co-founder of the Type Tu Family Camp at the Barton Center for Diabetes Education, North Oxford, Massachusetts.

Ms Ciporen lectures on diabetes in various venues. Most recently, she presented "Combating Type 2 Diabetes in Children", for which she won the Health Throughout the Life Span award, at the International Changing Health Conference, Dublin Ireland, June, 2010.

Her web site, DiabetesFamilies.com, a resource for Type 2 information, lifestyle guidance and community networking, launched on March 1, 2011.

Ms Ciporen uses her lifelong experiences, as a mother and health care professional, to share her practical solutions and help families teach better health habits to their children.
